Carlos Ibarra Rivadeneira’s Story

Carlos Ibarra Rivadeneira shared his story with WE ARE WALES to show the incredible contributions of BAME people in Wales.

Carlos volunteers for Re-Cycle, a social enterprise founded in 2006 to reduce the widespread waste of bikes in Swansea by restoring them and putting them back on the road.

1 in 5 donated bikes go to volunteers who learn maintenance skills, repair, and riding, the rest are restored and sold on to support the project. Hundreds of cyclists in Swansea are riding bikes they have earned in exchange for their time as a volunteer at Re-Cycle.

Over the past 10 years, Re-Cycle has restored 3,500 bikes, trained 2+ volunteers per week. They’ve also expanded their service to offer cycle servicing and repairs.
